Jonathan Baskett

A graduate of the Canberra School of Art Glass Workshop, Jonathan Baskett
(b.1969) is a glassblower and designer, comfortable working with others in
the fabrication of his designs. He says, ‘Having an innate knowledge
of the material allows one to push the bounds of what is possible’.
For Baskett the challenge
is to design an object with clean lines and minimalist aesthetics, suitable
for manufacture yet retaining a distinctive and individual flair.
After graduating, Baskett worked for various companies throughout Europe
in production, as well as in limited series and unique glassware. In 2001
he was introduced to Nouvel Studios, a medium-sized glass-making facility
in Mexico. Now his work is produced by Nouvel and marketed in Mexico, the
United States, Europe and Asia. He is designing new pieces to add to the
Nouvel range twice a year, sending specifications electronically to and regularly
visiting the production team in Mexico.
