Now an internationally recognised brand, Crumpler was established in Melbourne in 1995 by designer Stuart Crumpler (b.1973) and his business partners, Dave Roper (b.1970) and Will Miller (b.1970). Stuart Crumpler was working as a bicycle courier for a company owned by Roper and Miller when he designed and made the first courier satchel bags. Before long the bags took over from the deliveries and a new partnership was formed. The company has since developed a vast range of bags and accessories, captured imaginations through clever marketing, and made some very astute business moves. Crumpler now has retail stores around Australia as well as in New York and Singapore.

Crumpler bags are notoriously practical, expressive and just quirky enough to appeal to skaters, bike riders and office commuters alike. The bags and the brand – expressed through the slightly subversive dancing dreadlocked figure – are now a prominent feature of Australia’s urban landscape.
