Julie Blyfield, Leslie Matthews and Catherine Truman In 2005 the partners of the Gray Street Workshop celebrated their 20th anniversary. The Workshop has been an influential model for contemporary Australian jewellery. More than 60 jeweller-tenants have benefited from continuous exposure to the partners’ professionalism, commitment and intellectual rigour through access to the workshop facilities.

Julie Blyfield (b.1957), Leslie Matthews (b.1964) and Catherine Truman (b.1957) are considered significant artists in their own right, as is Sue Lorraine, the fourth partner who, after 20 years, left the collective to focus on other pursuits.

In addition to producing work for exhibitions and for specialist contemporary jewellery retailers, the Gray Street Workshop partners have also successfully undertaken numerous public artwork projects. Like many multidisciplinary practices in Australia, the work from Gray Street regularly defies traditional distinctions between art, craft and design.
