Stefan Lie

Stefan Lie (b.1968) originally trained and worked as a toolmaker in Switzerland. Lie developed sound problem-solving skills during the eight years he spent in Europe specialising in injection mould manufacturing. He returned to Australia in 1994 to study industrial design at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Lie has overcome the limited manufacturing opportunities in Australia by producing many of his works himself, as well as the tooling components required to produce them. This ‘can do’ attitude has given Lie the freedom to pursue a broad range of design projects.
After almost ten years of specialising in furniture, supported by the influential
design importer and retailer de de ce, Lie has recently shifted his attention
to jewellery and product design with typically elegant results. His pared
back aesthetic optimises simple, repeating shapes, with a strong emphasis
on form.
Moving away from self production, Lie is increasingly focused on concept
development and design for established manufacturers.
