Denise Sprynskyj and Peter Boyd

Denise Sprynskyj (b.1960) and Peter Boyd (b.1971) established their label, S!X, in 1994. Sprynskyj and Boyd became friends through their shared passion for design. They met at RMIT University and both completed degrees in fashion in 1992. When they started out, money for fabrics was limited, and this led to the discovery of the design process of deconstruction.

The duo began cutting and tearing existing garments apart, and then putting them back together to create unique outfits. Then they started using the recycled garment as the prototype that could be translated into a flat pattern and recreated in new fabrics.

Driven by original ideas, a vast knowledge of traditional techniques and practical application of modern technology, S!X successfully disrupts the design process to create avant-garde, ‘recycled’ pieces that maintain a strong sense of tailoring and the iconic S!X style. The duo maintains a successful exhibition practice and participates regularly in Sydney and Melbourne fashion festivals.
