Marc Schamburg (b.1965) and Michael Alvisse (b.1963) met in the late 1980s, while working within an architectural practice as an interior designer and an architect, respectively. Their own company, Schamburg + Alvisse was established in 1997.

Ensconced in a Surry Hills warehouse, with a team of nine staff, their studio doubles as a showroom. As creative directors, Schamburg oversees the production and development, Alvisse takes care of relationships, sales and marketing, and both contribute to the design. Manufactured in Australia, their furniture is typically refined, elegant and exquisitely crafted. ‘Australia has not traditionally been a manufacturer of premium furniture,’ says
Alvisse, ‘so it’s very rewarding that we get regular sales enquiries from clients in Italy, Japan and the United States.’

Schamburg and Alvisse’s professional backgrounds have assisted them to understand their clients, which includes interior designers and architects. They also distinguish themselves in their dedication to ecologically sensitive design and production.
