‘Inspired’ by Bombay Sapphire
For over a decade Bombay Sapphire has supported the design industry internationally. Initiatives including the Designer Glass Project (UK), the Bombay Sapphire Blue Room (global) and the Bombay Sapphire Foundation have been implemented to support emerging designers globally. Bombay Sapphire has also worked alongside some of the world’s best contemporary designers such as Tord Boontje, Karim Rashid, Tom Dixon and Marcel Wanders.
In Australia, Bombay Sapphire’s outstanding reputation has been further enhanced through the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award. Established in 2003, the Award aims to promote excellence in functional design and to nurture Australia’s emerging design talent. The winner of the 2006 Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award, Charles Wilson, received $20,000 and a trip to the Milan International Furniture Fair. In addition, $10,000 was awarded to the top four finalists Henry Wilson, Kelly Freeman & Rina Bernabei, Lana Alsamir and Louisa Vilde.
Bombay Sapphire is also proud to be working with Object Gallery to present
the inaugural Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award Exhibition.
The exhibition, developed by Object
Gallery, reflects Bombay Sapphire’s global commitment to the industry
by raising the level of critical awareness of contemporary design in Australia.
The exhibition will tour to Melbourne Museum from July to September 2007.
As Principal Sponsor of Freestyle, Bombay Sapphire has found another way to show its passionate commitment to design in Australia. It has been integral to the success of the exhibition, which marks the beginning of a new era in the development and appreciation of our design culture, and creates a strong positioning for Australia as a centre of innovation and design excellence.
